Time, money, and reputation are what an organization loses if it’s hit with a general or sexual harassment complaint. Effective prevention strategies, including training, can help employers create a workplace free from harassment. Through small and large group discussions, case studies and strategies for combating harassment, participants will learn ways to help create a respectful workplace. The workshop is presented in a non-confrontational manner. Participants will develop a broad understanding of legal and interpersonal aspects of the topic.

- Myths and realities:
- participants complete a brief questionnaire as a foundation for discussion on issues related to respect in the workplace;
- Defining sexual harassment — what it is and what it is not;
- The impact of sexual and other forms of harassment:
- how harassment affects individual employees, their careers and the organization;
- The law and policy:
- brief overview of current sexual harassment case law and its relationship to other forms of harassment;
- review of organizational policies and procedures for handling issues related to harassment;
- Discussion of sexual harassment questionnaire:
- through discussions based on the questionnaire completed earlier in the program, participants will learn to recognize and respond to situations;
- Case studies:
- review and discussion of case studies provides participants with a thorough understanding of harassment and provides a foundation for strategies to deal with potentially damaging situations and ways of contributing to the creation of a respectful workplace;
- Strategies for creating a professional and respectful work environment:
- how employees can help to diffuse inappropriate co-worker behaviors;
- individual steps to improve the working environment.
